There has been some confusion about PE courses at Sunset Ridge Middle School. We hope this message will clarify the situation and answer lingering questions.
PE is a required course for all students in the Jordan School District in grades 7, 8, and 9. It is anticipated that every student, except for those with significant social, emotional, or physical concerns, will take PE at Sunset Ridge Middle School during the school day.
It is possible to take a PE course online through various providers, including Utah Students Connect. These courses are entirely self-directed and can be challenging for a student to complete. The majority of students are more successful in a daily PE class with teacher direction and assistance. Note: Some 9th grade students elected to take their PST PE course in the summer – those students who enrolled in and passed the summer course will receive credit on their transcripts and will have their schedules adjusted prior to the start of the school year.
Parents of students with significant social, emotional, or physical concerns may wish to visit with their student’s counselor to discuss their options. Counselors will return to the building in early August; however, to ensure your ability to discuss concerns with your student’s counselor, it is highly advised that you contact the Counseling Office at 801-412-2485 to set an appointment.
We look forward to seeing all students back for the start of the school year in late August.
